Placopecten magellanicus, trước đây được liệt kê là Pecten tenuicostatus và Pecten grandis[2] và từng được gọi là "sò khổng lồ", các tên thường gọi là sò điệp biển sâu Đại Tây Dương, sò điệp biển sâu, sò điệp biển Bắc Đại Tây Dương, sò biển châu Mỹ, sò điệp biển Đại Tây Dương, hay sò điệp biển[3], là một loài sò điệp thân mềm hai mảnh vỏ quan trọng về mặt thương mại có nguồn gốc từ tây bắc Đại Tây Dương.[4]
